The oldest profession is getting an upgrade. Lifelike sex robots are poised to make a major impact on the intimacy industry, and have already established their first technological brothel in Barcelona.
The local ladies of the night reacted with anger and concern to the new sex robots, which are really more like elaborate dolls.
Aprosex, an organization that works to defend the rights of sex workers, posted a complaint on their website:
"The sex-affection of a person can not be provided by a doll. They are different and compatible services. They do not communicate...They do not listen to you or caress you, they do not comfort you or look at you. They do not give you their opinion or drink a glass of champagne with you.”
By the time this outrage reached authorities and the police went to check for legal issues, the brothel had removed all the toys. It turns out that when their landlord saw pictures of the dolls online he realized they were in his building, and asked the company to remove them.
Instead of their old address in the Gothic quarter, the location is now secret, according to a receptionist at the first building, and given only to paying customers.
Their creators argue that Lumi Dolls can provide something like affection in a fun, clean and safe manner, and that this is clearly a service people want. Their lifelike toys may not be on the verge of ending prostitution, but they could give it a run for its money.
