How old were you when you started wearing a bra? Like a period, it’s usually a rite of passage for preteen girls. The logic is that the more breast tissue that develops, the more support your chest will need. And besides, who wants to end up with drooping breasts because we didn’t wear a bra?
Not so fast. There are reports that reveal that actually wearing a bra may ultimately lead to sagging boobs! According to IFL Science:
"'Medically, physiologically, anatomically – breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra,' Professor Rouillon told France Info in an interview.
The researchers believe that young women would gain more tone and supporting breast tissue if no bra were used. In the study, women that stopped wearing bras – through choice, not as a requirement of the study – had a 7-millimeter (0.3-inch) lift in their nipples when compared with regular bra users. Bras, they claim, could hamper circulation and reduce breast tone over time."
Whoa. To be fair, there are other studies which indicate that a bra is helpful (and certainly useful in environments where you don’t want your headlights on or them jiggling all over the place!). But still, we thought this was some really interesting food for thought.
Since a bra preventing sagging is a bit of a toss-up, what can you do to keep your girls nice and firm?
Here’s what else science has revealed…
Drink lots of water
Use pomegranate seed oil
