Donald Trump is terrible at almost everything, but he is great at 1) pissing off America, and 2) giving late night talk show hosts material.
Even though his latest ridiculous tirade — this time calling some of the Charlottesville white supremacists “very good people” and blaming violence on the “alt-left” — was made only moments before Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers filmed their shows, each scrambled to address these newest absurdities.
Spoiler: they absolutely ripped him apart.
Let’s start with Meyers. The Late Night host has never beaten around the bush with how much he despises the President, and he didn’t hesitate to rip him apart this time either. “President Trump this afternoon gave a press conference that can only be described as clinically insane.” Meyers would go on to describe him as a waitress who’s intentionally trying to get fired from her job.
Kimmel didn’t hold back either, saying that at this point, he’d rather have Cersei Lannister running the U.S. He’d also offer a suggestion of his own to deal with the next three and a half years of a Trump Presidency: sticking him at the top of a castle and locking him inside.
Colbert seemed to take the most offense to the “alt-left” comments, pointedly saying, “First of all sir, the opposite of the 'Alt-right' isn't the 'Alt-left'... it's the not Nazis." Then he went in on Trump’s statement that Thomas Jefferson was a “major slave owner:”
“Oh yeah major slave owner, easily in the top five slave owners. It goes Jefferson, Washington, Madison, Jabba the Hut, Ivanka's clothing line, there are a lot of them."
While all the crap coming out of Trump’s mouth is great for comedy, don’t forget how sad it is for the country.
